I mixed up the papier maché yesterday, smooshed it into the mold, rested it in a bowl and set it out in the sun for the second afternoon in a row now and it’s still wet. I have no patience for such a thing, so I flipped it out onto a parchment covered cookie sheet a little while ago to help the face area dry. Lots of little air pockets pocking it, but when it’s dry, it just might be salvageable. I may try covering it with Mod Podge and fun tissue paper... I’ll think of something. Although, it’s kind of funky as-is, in a good way. I’ll try plaster again soon now that I have silicone spray. But I’m just so darn impatient while things dry. You know what I mean?
This could make a fun Jello mold, but definitely chocolate, one day.
If you have any fun ideas on how to use this mold, I’d love to hear them!

How about a deer candle? Kind-of a deer in the headlights look? Hee hee...What about a jello mold? Sandcastle?
Very cool!
I've heard that you can always place it in the oven(on a cookie sheet)on a really low temp.
I've been thinking of giving paper-mache' a try, but I don't think I have the patience for a project that takes two days :)
Almost looks stone-like.
Oh, I absolutely love it! You could use polymer clay, I wonder if that would work?
I have a white mounted deer hanging in my living room and would totally buy another. What a great find!
cant you 'line' it with the paper clay stuff and then with newspapers in the center and then more paper clay? it would not take nearly as long to dry that way and it would be really lite.
A nice agar2 dessert:) Truly.. it makes wonderful desserts..
I agree that it looks like stone, but who wants a stone-looking deer head anyway? Love your blog!
I have never seen anything like it, and I can't wait to see what creative use/display you come up with!
I didn't even know they SOLD molds like this. How neat. I'm sure it will be super cool when you work the bugs out. :)
what a wonderfully pointless new treasure you have!
You could hang a whole row/grid of the deer molded with different materials & colors.
oh my goodness this is so funny, love the candle idea...lol
the only thing that came to mind was a butter mold!!???
That's really cute! I love that mold.
Hi,
Yes, definetly try the plaster! I use it all the time! The silicone mold release is a must though! It too will take a while to dry! Activa does make a plaster you can put in the microwave! I've used it and it does take the sting out of all that waiting! Good Luck!
Some sort of squishy meat product...um..pate? That would be kinda gross, but fun.

Thanks for ALL the fun ideas everyone!
Just paint that one brown, tell someone that it's chocolate and watch as hilarity ensues! (may want to use non toxic paints...)
