First, I took a photo of my cabinet and played around with digitally placing different images into the windows and also played with color. Of course if you’re good at visualizing, you wouldn’t need to do this, I was just torn between which image to use, so this was a good solution.
I measured my windows well and then choosing the graphic scanned from a very old trade card, as-is, I placed areas of the card for the two window sections together digitally (I work in Adobe Illustrator, but most all image software programs can do this.) By placing them together as one full image, I saved a little money vs. ordering two separate shapes. I took into consideration the visual break of the wood door frames and cut that section out of my image before joining. I also added a cut line into the image.
The ordering from sticviews was a piece of cake, once the image is uploaded you are able to see what you are ordering, make any necessary adjustments and finally purchase your sticviews for shipping.
Typically, when ordering for a window, I would have ordered the design right-facing on white stic (opaque), but because my window panels were beveled, I flopped my image in reverse and ordered it as a clear stic to apply to the flat side of the window from the inside of the doors. My order arrived right away and came complete with instructions, suggestions, a spray bottle, squeegee and helpful little plastic razor for lifting corners and repositioning the stic.
I trimmed apart my two sections,
then folded back the tops of the backing.
I aligned the top of the sticviews to the top inside of the window frame and using light pressure, smoothed it down as I gently pulled the backing down and away. I opted not to use the water installation option as to not damage the wood frame should the water run down into the cracks.
Using the squeegie to smooth out the stic, I also removed any bubbles by sliding them out the edges. Even without the water this was easily repositionable and easy to apply.Once the stic was applied to both windows, I taped the backing paper, that I had removed from the clear stic earlier, inside the window trim on the inside of the doors.
The whole installation took less than a half hour.
I absolutely love it!Enter to win a $50 worth of sticviews!

First off, I'd make up some steampunk skins for my laptops and netbook -- but then again, there's that window over the bathtub begging for something...
I'm a fan on facebook! I'd probably create something for my sister for Christmas- she loves stuff like this!
I teach literature at a middle school, and I have huge windows in my classroom. I would find the most inspiring quotes to fill them so that when my students look out the windows, their attention has a greater chance of being redirected to my class. :)
I signed up for the e news letter. I would probably make a laptop skin. I've been wanting one for a while
I would use them to improve the horrid view out of my new apartment windows with some lovely art deco "stained glass."
I've got an ugly window begging for something pretty ... an office window that would look so much better with something like this than the paper towels my officemate taped over it!
Wonderful!!
Once again, "you're a stinking GENIUS". Love it, Love it, Love it. I have a 10ft opening between the living room and family room. I have collected different sizes and shapes of old windows (Urban Ore) to hang in part of the opening, almost like a mosaic of little windows. This technique would just add another layer of goodness to the whole project.:)
Ooooh, I love them and am happy to FB fan them! I have a cabinet with 2 glass doors that I'd love to cover, similar to yours. You are so darned GENIUS, Cathe! I'm crossing my fingers and toes that I win!
I can think of a million things to do with this, but I would probably start off making one for my kitchen windows, I'm a messy cook and curtains always need to be washed, but I would like a little privacy in my kitchen. I think something geometric and colorful for the bottom half of my windows would be perfect.
I have no idea what I would do with my sticviews! I'm too excited about the possibilities!
I have the perfect place, I have my grandmothers old cabinet where you can see the mess of dishes, I've been want to cover the glass. This is a wonderful idea
What a great idea! I'm signed up to get their newsletter. I would love to design something to go on my living room wall, and on a very large mirror I have! Thanks for the chance!
I would definitely use this on my new bathroom windows that have been begging for a window covering for months....this would be better!
I would probably do something similar to what you did...I have two cabinets in the living room with glass I'm not sure about. What a great solution!!
I signed up for the newsletter.
I would do something with my front door, there's a big window on it and I'm not a fan of curtains on a door. So I'd do something to give it some privacy.
I signed up for the newsletter. I can think of several things I could use the sticviews for, but I really liked the Victorian style ironwork in the window ideas. There are just so many wonderful possibilites! Thank you for featuring the sticviews!!

I signed up for the newsletter. I think I will try to copy the window you made...it took my breath away, how awesome it was.

OMG!!!! I just found your blog and this post!!!! My head is spinning!!!! What an incredible product! Thank you so very much for posting this! Now, I can think of pieces of furniture that I gave away that I could have fixed! Oh well, from now on I am going to try this method! Thansk again!
This looks amazing! Love the creativity!
WOW! Great product, haven't heard of it before!
I would probably make something for my 4 year old's bedroom - we are renting and it's the perfect decor for renters since it removes eaisily! Thanks for the info!
Hope you are bearing your sorrow well, I am keeping you in my thoughts.
that looks awesome! Have to go check the company out
I would love to cover the double glass doors into the kids playroom... I envision something semi-transparent, sepia to brown tones, with a map/globe theme. Oh, what fun that would be to design! Thanks for the chance!
I love the way your china cabinet came out Cathe. It looks better than before (although I loved it just the way it was). I can see using this on my bathroom window that's in the front of the house. Or on a mirror, it has lots of possibilities.
Elaine Allen
Love these! I think I would make a sticker with my photos for a mirror, but my wheels are spinning too. Lots of ideas.
I love the graphic and how you used it on that cabinet. great job as always!
Fantastic tutorial! You are amazing...
Hope your weekend is wonderful~
Michelle
My head is spinning. I have no idea what I would use it for, too many possiblities. Something cool for sure!

I think I need a border around my bathroom mirror.
Hi Cathe, More prayers went up for you and Tim this morning. I don't know if you're aware that I lost my beloved father-in-law, for whom we were caring at home, just last week. I understand the alternating numbness and pain.
You're generous beyond words to share those images! They are some of my favorites thus far! That being said, you really need to travel to the east coast and do this for me. I'll buy the stuff. I'll help you pay for the plane ticket if you help me by MAKING some of your projects for me. I'm hopelessly craftless.
I linked to your BLOG2PRINT post (last May) once again this morning.
Signed up for the enews. I will start with laptop skins for my kids using daughter's art. Then I have a cabinet that would greatly benefit from the some treatment you gave yours. What a brilliant idea! The cabinet looks fantastic!
I've been walking around my house looking at all the possibilities -- thank you so much for sharing this fantastic idea and giveaway. Instead of my house, my step-daughter has been wanting to dress up her kitchen cabinets and I think this would be great. Not sure what kind of design, but probably something vintage looking.
Teresa
Wow - those are neat! I'd probably make a skin for my laptop, although it would be really neat to design a fish tank background too... there are just so many options! Thank you for this giveaway, and the regular inspiration on your blog :0)

Cathe,
So sorry about your brother.
Thank you for the great link to Sticviews I have requested the newsletter and will work on a project for some windows . LOVE IT
Blessings to you
I have some vintage frames I'd like to fill with this
Probably something for the bathroom windows (bottom portion only) as I like to look out the tops.
Love how your cabinet doors turned out - gorgeous! Now if I had my cabinet finished with the doors ready, I would definitely do those.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to win. I just love reading your blog!
I'd make a laptop skin for my son or I'd think about something for my china cabinet -- something whimsical for the holidays....
Holy Hannah, I think we have the same china cabinet. Except mine has the glass busted out of one side. And is full of books. It's sturdy!
I'd get a laptop skin. Oh yes. With some classic illustrations and some of my own, too, woven together. I have Plans.
carapacenator(at)gmail.com
Love your cabinet!! I have some windows that I was thinking of using gallery glass paint to spruce them up a bit, but wow - a window stic would be an easy alternative!! (I joined the newsletter!)
I signed up for the newsletter. Your cabinet looks SO awesome!!! I would love to do something similar, or use it on an old window. ~Lori
Since I am renting I would definitely use sticviews as a way to decorate my walls!! I've been wanting to put a large scale design on one of my walls, and this would totally work!!
iheartoranch(at)yahoo(dot)com
OH lawsy mercy!!!! Perfection! Amazement! I'm always amazed here but this one knocked it out of the park!!!
I also have a cabinet in which I'm stuck with and.... ;)
I love how they look. Did you mention how much they cost?
Now I will be up all night thinking of what I can do with these! My first project would be to make something to cover the window in my laundry room door so I don't have to look at my boring fence or neglected garden. :)
So fun! The mini squeegee has me cracking up . .
That is such a great use of their product. I wish I had a cabinet to do something like that.
I'd probably get a vintage looking number to put over our front door. We have a window above our front door that most likely had either stained glass or house numbers in gold lettering on it. So I'd like to create that to keep with the time period of our home.
I became one of the Facebook fans (Kathleen S. W.)
Wow- that's such a great idea!! I'd use it to put on the window on the door between my laundry room-panrty and the kitchen. I hate seeing into the laundry, and put a curtain up instead. But this would be a great alternative and conversation piece!
Hi everyone. The panel I ordered that I cut in half came to around $45 plus shipping.
In STEP ONE of the ordering process, you simply input any dimensions and your stic choice (clear, white, etc.) and the cost is calculated in the orange box in the upper right before you ever even upload your image. This is a great tool as you can change dimensions as I did to find the most cost efficient way to order my piece.
Hope that helps!
I signed up for their eNEWSletter...this is a very interesting idea...goes beyond the words you can put on a wall-ONCE-and I appreciate the re-use factor that sticviews offers. I would most likely order a sticview to cover the hideous between panels of glass stains on my sliding glass doors, then a laptop skin for my designsbyanna.artfire.com site, then some decorating of walls.

First of all I want to send you a big hug and my deepest sympathies! I just signed up for the newsletter, I would love to use their transfers for cloth and make a duvet cover and matching pillows with a our monogram or crest! the ideas are endless!
Wow! That looks fantastic!
FYI, the white thing is actually a squeegee, and the blue plastic thing is a razor to help you lift up corners for easy repositioning.
This was such a great idea for using sticviews. Thanks for the helpful step-by-step installation instructions and photos!
I would make a skin for the new laptop I'm giving my daughter for Christmas
I would make a laptop skin for sure! My laptop is a gamers computer, which I got for it's video card, but the top of it has flames all over it... talk about silly looking. I would love to make a beautiful damask print laptop cover!
I would make a laptop skin for my Macbook and a few wall stics for my family. When I get started I may not stop. ;)
Beautiful--idea and end result! Love the Paula's idea of hanging old windows in a pass through area, and adhering these to the panes!!
This is awesome! I would make some wall decals. I'm definitely going to come up with something to make!
First of all I LOVE what you did with your china cabinet!!! Now I'm trying to figure out where I could use something similar in my house! My first thought was creating wall art for my grandson's bedroom. His mom and I have been mentally decorating it for awhile now, and this may just be the spark to get us going.
I signed up for their newsletter and if I can figure out how, I'm also a fan on Facebook.
I would love to scan some old cabinet photos I have and use them as skins for my laptop and cell phone. They would also look really cool as removable decor for seasonal roomboxes (I'm a miniaturist among other things).
Also, please accept my condolences on the loss of your brother.

What a great giveaway! I just signed up for the newsletter and can't wait to win...(I hope). I would make something for my bedroom wall. The wall above my bed is empty and I would love to put a romantic saying there.
Hi Cathe,
I tried posting a comment, but I mistakenly signed in with my hubbies account. I deleted it so here we go again.
I love the sticview concept and have been itching to re-cover a very vintage folding screen with some cool photos of my great, great grandparents from the 1890's taken on a cruise they went on to Tahiti. As you can imagine, the photos are priceless and I think they'd be a great overlay to fabric on my screen. The photos were printed on the old blue photo paper so they are especially lovely. Hope your holidays are splendid.
Ciao,

I would definitely have to spruce up my boring laptop! :) Thanks for sharing! lesleyjoho@yahoo.com
Wow! I want to make a laptop skin for my MacBook right away. Then the sliding doors for my shop could really use some spiffy window decals. The doors and windows in my living room would look banging with some Frank Lloyd Wright inspired stics... my mind is spinning with the possibilities!
Thanks for sharing all of your fabulous ideas, great blog!
So clever!
Very very sorry about your brother...
Just foudn your wonderful blog! Love these. I think I would use them on the glass of my vintage grain bin. There are four different bins. Not sure if I would break on graphic into four pieces or choose four different ones.
What a great idea!
I love this site. They take it to a whole level, and your project is amazing! I think I'd so something w/ my daughters ballet pictures, maybe for their dancing area. I also need a laptop skin, so I have to do that over there. Great prices!
I just joined as a Fan on Facebook and added myself to their mailing list.
I would like to win this to incorporate a couple different interior design ideas and for a custom vehicle graphic for the car club!

Hi sweet Cathe ~ I absolutely LOVE this idea!!! I signed up for their newsletter too. I have a small, wood framed glass door that I would love to turn into a piece of artwork and hang. Another great idea would be to use one of your custom monograms to create a stic for the front door!! How beautiful would that be? I hope you and your family are well and again, I am so very sorry for your loss,
hugs and love, Dawn
oh wow!!this is so neat!!! I am happy to have found your blog!!!
Thank you for the link to Sticviews--I'd never heard of them, and they are wonderful! I signed up for their newsletter and will visit the site often now. I would love to make some meaningful quotes (in vintage style, of course!) to stick on my guest bedroom walls--and think it would be fun to have some wall art for my craft room that is made up of vintage images. I'd love to put some flourishes or something similar on the wall of our ugly bathroom and fix it up cute. Thanks again for all your wonderful ideas--visiting your blog is always so much fun and incredibly inspiring!!!!!!
I'd make some decals for my car as I drive a minivan and it definitely needs to have a cooler look. I would also make some wall decals as I rent an apt and I can take them off easily and without marring the walls if and when I leave.
Beyond fabulous.....it looks like an old store piece now....I ADORE it...that's one of the best makeovers I've EVER seen....congratulations!
I signed up for their newsletter....
I'd do something with my back door....it's sooo boring..
Warm regards,
Spencer
Cathe ~ Love what you did with the hutch! I have a round, glass coffee table - I would like to do a old clock face on it. I can see it now! Thanks! Marcy

Hi Cathe...The back of our house is very "open" with two sliding doors. I would create a "garden" that looks out onto the deck with the sticviews. Thank you for offering this!
This is such a clever idea. I know the giveaway is over, but just wanted to comment on what you've done!
I have a cabinet with glass doors that needs to be concealed! I'd love to do something fun with this space! Cool company.
Amazing...love this idea...you never cease to amaze me with your talent.
